ID Protection, at times also referred to as WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the genuine contact info of domain name owners on WHOIS websites. Without this service, the personal name, home address and email of any domain registrant will be freely available. Providing fake details during the registration process or altering the genuine details afterwards will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain name registrant losing their ownership of the domain. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, demand that the WHOIS info must be valid and accurate at all times. The ID Protection service was introduced by registrar companies as a response to the arising concerns about possible identity theft. If the service is enabled, the domain registrar’s contact information will be listed instead of the domain registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, even though there are some country-code extensions that don’t.

ID Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

If you order a cloud website hosting package from our company, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register or transfer a domain and enable ID Protection during the signup process or you can enable the service for any of your domains at any moment later through the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is remarkably easy – once you sign in, you’ll have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” sign, which will show you if the service is activated or not. By clicking it, you can either ID-protect the domain name, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently active.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain under it, you can activate our ID Protection service easily. This takes only several clicks of the mouse in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you manage everything related to your semi-dedicated web hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your domains and for each one of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” button, using which you can enable, renew or disable the service. Of course, this will be possible only with generic and country-code top-level domain name extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this beforehand, so you won’t end up requesting a service that we cannot provide.
